Rehoming Your Pet

We Strive To Find A Safe & Healthy Home For Every Pet

If there comes a day where you can no longer care for your pet, the Rockingham Harrisonburg SPCA provides compassionate, non-judgmental surrender and rehoming processes for community members who are no longer able to care for their animals. We know that it’s difficult to give up a pet, but we also know that sometimes it’s necessary. We allow Harrisonburg and Rockingham County residents to surrender their pet to our shelter where we will do everything in our power to partner them with a stable, loving family. We know that the decision to rehome your pet is not made lightly, and we’re here to offer guidance and resources to simplify the process. The Rockingham Harrisonburg SPCA Rehoming Program is here to assist you.

How it Works

Our Rehoming Program is free to use and allows owners to manage their pet’s placement and choose their next caretaker. By filling out an informational form, your pet’s photo and description will be added to this page for the public to view. Those interested in adopting your pet will be able to reach out to you directly to start a dialogue and begin the rehoming process. The RHSPCA has materials available to help guide you through this program to make it as smooth as possible for both people and pets.

Where to Start

Ask yourself these 5 questions (below) before you decide that you certainly want to give up your pet. If you still wish to proceed, you will next create a listing on this page, simply by filling out the Rehoming Form. You can contact us for assistance and an RHSPCA representative will respond in a timely manner.
