Lost Pets
Is your pet missing?
We’re sorry your pet has gone missing. We may be able to help. Check to see if your pet has been Reported Found by good Samaritans or brought in our care (Strays in Custody). If you don’t see your missing pet listed on either of those pages, complete a Lost Pet Report. We check these reports throughout the day to help you locate your pet.
If you find your pet on your own, please call or email the animal shelter so we can cancel your report and celebrate!
Have you found someone’s pet?
Help us get them home! These pets have been reported lost by their owners. If you find an animal matching one of these descriptions, please file a Found Report with us, bring the pet to the shelter, or call your local police department and ask for Animal Control.
Please note: The Lost and Found reports are not updated in real-time. We ask that you allow our staff 24-48 hours to enter your report into our system.

How do I reclaim my pet?
When reclaiming your pet, please bring:
- A valid ID, proof of ownership, and $8/day for each day your pet is here to help cover the cost of food and care they received while they’re. Also, if you’re picking up a dog, you must bring their current rabies certificate and valid tags.
What if my dog is not current on it’s rabies vaccine?
If your dog doesn’t have a current rabies vaccination, they will need to get one before they leave the shelter.
- We offer our expedited same-day vaccination service for $50. This includes transportation to the vet which must be done by RHSPCA staff.
- Or, we have our weekly vaccine service for $25. Your pet will have to stay at the shelter until our volunteer veterinarian comes in to administer vaccines.
What if my dog’s tags are out of date?
If your dog doesn’t have current county/city tags (for Rockingham or Harrisonburg), you will need to purchase a dog license before they leave the shelter.
